This is me climbing Mt. Everest!

OK, I'm a very honest cat, so I have to tell you the truth - I didn't really climb Mt. Everest (though I bet I could if I wanted to - I'm a very determined cat, you know). Anyway, Joe, one of our volunteers was editing a picture of me and he decided to be funny and put me in all these places so I'd stand out more - sometimes it's hard to see a black cat in a photo because of our secret ninja blending in powers. So he put me here, and I liked it and decided this is the photo of me I wanted you to see. I'm the sweetest petite black lady cat, who loves snuggles and will lay in your arms on my back like a baby. I am sweet and polite and like everyone, even dogs and kids! I'm spayed and have had my shots and am ready to be adopted whenever you are. I'll be waiting right here for you, unless I decide to really go climb Mt. Everest.

I'm up for adoption here at Sierra Cares. Until I find a home, I like to sleep in and on this one. I'd like to find a forever home with people of my own, with a house bigger than this (otherwise, where would THEY sleep?) I am very sweet and get along well with dogs and other cats, and will sit on your lap - and couch - for as long as you let me.

A Mama Cat Gets a Mama of Her Very Own

The small cardboard box left outside Oakhurst Veterinary Hospital had surprising contents: several kittens, a mama cat and a puppy. The lovely people at Oakhurst Vet quickly found good homes for the puppy and kittens , but the mama cat was more problematical. She was a grey tabby with big round eyes. She wasn’t elegant or showy - she was simply a tabby, with neat stripes and a compact, sturdy body that had borne her share of kittens over the years. She had an enormous purr and gave lots of love when given the chance but, like many single mothers, she seemed to know that if she was going to make it, she’d have to do it herself.
“Just give me someplace safe to sleep,” she seemed to say, “and I can take care of myself.”
After spaying (thanks Oakhurst Vet Hospital!), she went to a foster home who discovered how much love she had to give. She would snuggle with her foster family at night and they would wake up in the morning to find her sitting patiently at the foot of the bed, waiting for someone to wake up so she could start up her purr.
One of the people who adopted a cat from us in the past (Cuthbert, rescued in the North Fork fire) lost her beloved dog to health problems late last year. Our cat coordinator, thinking that maybe her cat needed a friend, asked if she’d be interested in fostering a companion cat to see how it worked out. She said yes, and Ms. Mama Cat packed up her stuff and moved right in. Her new mom, dubbed her Tasha, or Princess Tasha when she’s very good. She and the resident cat, Cuthbert, both sleep on the bed with mom, and rumor has it there was some nose touching, so detente may have been achieved.
Cuthbert is currently not making any public comments, but he has been overheard to say that Tasha is “kind of cute” though he also has complained that she hogs the food, doesn’t arrange the litter box back the right way after she uses it, and sleeps in all his favorite spots.

Can't forget the dogs, dawg!

Hi, my name is Shiloh, and I bet you think you found me, but actually, I found you! I am, after all, a really great hound dog. I tree cats, but do not hurt them, and get along well with other dogs. I need good fencing and someone who knows what wonderful dogs hounds are - and think how handy it will be to have a hound around if you ever lose something! I bet I can sniff out whatever you are looking for...like right now, the TV remote is under the chair, and there's some change in the couch, but I have no idea where your car keys are. Maybe you left them in the car, again? See how useful I am?!

and one more kitten...hopefully the last for a few days.

And finally on Friday we got our last kitten for the week - hopefully we can say that on a Sunday afternoon, but you never know. She was in the roadway with another kitten who, sadly, did not make it. She has some injuries to her face from either being knocked around by a car or being thrown from one. She's going to be fine, though - she's eating and drinking and even spending some time snuggling with Bernice, Jan, and Gus (see yesterday's post). She's a little traumatized, but we think she's getting through it just fine - we're giving her a lots of extra tender loving care. Her name is Lissa, and here she is getting a snuggle and a gentle face rub:

Next we got three kittens from a construction site. Their mom was found dead near some machinery, then the workers found the kittens. One guy was going to take them home - to feed to his snake! Thank goodness another nice person took them instead, and his wife called us. There are two girls and a boy - we named them Bernice, Gus, and Jan after some people dear to us here at Sierra Cares. This is Gus defending the world from fluffy ball toys; Jan and Bernice were off taking a nap.

Man it's been quite a week...we got 5 new kittens in through various sad circumstances. First we got this cute orange guy in...his mom got hit by a car. He was pretty scared at first, but he's very friendly now. We named him Mittens, and here he is:

He's relaxing on his purple velvet bed after a tough day repeatedly whacking a toy mouse (shhhh! don't tell him - he thinks it is a real mouse). He will soon be old enough for neutering and then available for adoption, where he will happily come whack your mice. Who could say no to that?

Hello, my name is Tigger (it is pronounced Teeegar thank you very much), and I am a cat up for adoption. I'm not just any cat, though - I am a very handsome Siamese gentleman. My mom died and my dad moved away to live with family, but before he left he brought me here. I miss my mom and would like another lap to sit on. I'm gorgeous, of course, and tall, leggy, and lanky. My nicknames around here are "Supermodel" and "Mr. Diva" but when you're this good looking, you get nicknames like that. I'll be on here from time to time making comments about some of the other animals here that are up for adoption, until I go to a home and someone else takes over. I'd really like a home with a lap I can sit on, and a person who likes to talk to me, because I love to talk! I like dogs and other cats, unless they are big male cats who bully me. I don't like to be bullied (yes, Charlie Cat, I am talking about YOU!)
